The rise, the use and ice age of windows phone in my eyes.

When Windows Phone 7 was announced it was heydays of Windows 7 (by the way the best operating system ever after DOS). It was new like morning newspaper given to the delivery wan driver at 4 am.   It was fresh like a lemon you cut from the tree and cut while in the garden. It was unlike any other like puppet show of Hamlet saving Superman from deep depression of alcoholic fumes in the bar next to Bukowski. I wanted it. The problem I faced was lack of offers by local Canadian carriers and my frugalness. By that I mean I did not wanted to pay full price on ebay and have it without warranty.   I skipped 7.5 by seduced by temptation of Windows phone 8. You know finally you can use dual core and some other goodies. By the way I liked my HTC 8X. It was colorful, fitted in my pocket without unpleasant size issues and it was genuine good phone: design, modern internals, great camera and personality to start with. I used windows phone 8 for a long time. I even got upgrade to 8.1!...

Surface Pro 3 looses it cover again

I had this issue just few months ago. After having several instances i actually ordered replacement Surface Pro 3. Culprit is same: you work, you turn it off and later (minute or day) you turn it on and it can't see touch cover . So no typing for you my friend.... And it done it again! In addition to developed battery drain. This is seriously bad product with stupid support and not worth any money at all. No innovation in design can substitute inability to perform primary function: been Personal Computer. The days of early Windows 95 and Windows Me are back in full. Way to go Microsoft!

Nissan Sentra 2015 in mid winter. Not bad, not good...

Image
On a second week of January 2016 I rented Nissan Sentra SV from Enterprise. Given rental location provided car with 3 overinflated tires (38 Psi) and forth one under inflated (27 Psi) while norm is 33 psi for all tires. Such mismatch contributed to rotational movement of the car during braking and inability to stay in the lane on highway speeds. After I figured out what was wrong and deflated/inflated tires it behaved more predictably. Bouncing sound of basket ball also was reduced. So to set up stage: it January, it snowing and it 100 km trips daily. With range of speed between 50 km/h to 110 km/h. It cold to -10C. I was driving it for four days. Overall 1200 km. Fuel efficiency was between 7.6 to 8 l/100 km on average. It way above manufacturer promised 6 l/100 km. No matter how economical I was within reasonable driving style (no jack rabbiting or even dynamic start/stops but no coasting from 1 km before traffic light either so car will stop itself) it never improved. Int...

Fun never stops with Surface pro 3

I had another issue. This time it downloaded updated firmware (EFI) and was stuck for 1.5 hours while installing it. I called Support and after first call was dropped i got instructions on how to perform two button restart. Surface was not reacting after 30 second plus power button press. It revived and i have another thing to worry about: how it will perform after failure of bios update? MS support ensured me not to worry i can get 329$ out of warranty replacement one or have discount and buy new one.... Like really.... i already payed for device 1700 $ after tax and it barely lasted through the year stealing my time and nerves and i am going to renew subscription for this misery?

Car reviews :)

We live in 3 lap car review world. Everyone posting some videos of 0-60(0-100) times and all walk arounds you can take. I was looking for a new car and took it way to seriously .  Because i going to drive 110 km every day. If seat is bad so my back is hurt. If it cant merge on high way... so it can't I drove plenty of cars and going to release reviews of test drives, rental experiences and for base line i have Accord 2002, manual 2.3 l. Very old school car. If someone has any comments about cars i would love to discuss cars, share experiences and can put certain reviews first. Anton

It almost 12 months with Surface Pro 3

So, i got replacement unit. It kinda sort of fine. Some corners are more bright (especially when it starts and shows Surface logo). but it ok. With small "o" and small "k" So... what happens? I try to install my Microsoft Office 2013 all official staff and it goes racing head to head with updates of pre-installed 32 bit Office. I don't like it, but by the end neither of them work. so i nuke whole system and "reset" it. So, it install fresh copy of settings and files and ... i figure out how to get my copy and version of Office. I did it and it great. The problem some other staff don't work. It sees only one core out of 4 logical and pushes it to the limits and then beyond. As a result tablet is noisy and hot like hell. 3 Refreshes after all together it ok. CPU is cool, nothing punishes system , it all in the order i like. Correct version of Office, no bloatware clean and sound. I use it for a month and start noticing pesky and frequent error...

10 months with Microsoft Surface Pro 3. The Stuck , the Akward and some portable thoughts

I have Microsoft Surface Pro 3 for about 10 months. I bought it in the last week of January 2015. It was attractive idea at the time but let start with reasoning why: I had old laptops forever. After certain point in time my laptop become ancient and i was happy camper until internet advertising killed it. Literally. I open 4 tabs and that's it. no more browsing for you my friend (pronounce it with Robot Bender like voice).  Website of interest is autoblog.com. So i needed new hardware. Why Surface? I liked idea from Surface which later become Surface 1. It seemed so cool and contemporary. You have best parts of both worlds... Reasoning number two was my occupation. I was college instructor/professor. So imagine (if you saw "Cool Runnings" movie it will help) it is Alberta, Canada and winter time. I just surprised myself by getting out and crawling through the snow at -30C waiting for a bus, getting on the bus, going to work and finding all my fingers intact and work...
