Casio DW6900 the most colorful G-Shock ever!

 Casio DW6900MS

G-Shocks started as utilitarian squares. Later on during late 90s decline Casio reinvented itself. Instead of slowing down and limiting models to very few in different guise it kept going. That is the most exciting thing in owning Casio: you wear timepiece made by the most innovative company. Some innovations came in form of same watch different color/special edition form. G-Shock was the ambassador of the brand. DW6900 became a poster child. Let see blackened DW6900MS as a watch and as a fashion thing.

When Casio produced G-Shocks for a first 10-15 years with standard black/grey plastic, steel or titanium.  Later on Casio realized, G-Shock become more than a mere utilitarian watch, it become an icon. Fashionable, desired and adored. As such it should be more visible, more colorful and more personal. Limited edition from designers has been born as well as in house variations. Almost nothing changed inside, however outside pat of the watch got complete makeover.

Inside DW6900MS you have Casio’s 1289 module.

It covers all your basic needs: time, calendar,  alarm, stopwatch and timer.  With time in hours, minutes and seconds, da, date and month all on one screen with 3 eyes above animating 5, 10 second intervals within one minute. You have hourly signal in case you need one and electro luminescent illumination which you going to need a lot.

Watch is loud and alarm/timer are useful.  As every G-sock it could be dropped from 10m on concrete and survive.  With 200m of water resistance there is nothing you can damage in the watch while swimming, diving and running in the rain or any other activity on or under water.  There is protection border around screen and backlight button. Pushers are accessible, easy to locate and push due to size and shape of watch case. It all nice and robust packed in the G-Shock package which has hulking presence on your wrist, yet it is comfortable watch with omission of tight sleeves.
Description of this watch should not be about functions, module or shortcomings of inverted LCD.

 Now you see it!

 Now you don't

You don’t buy this watch because of certain functions.

You get it. You buy it because you get it. You like it. Watch impressed you and you want to share this feeling. You buy this watch because you resonated together. I buy it because it awesome! And this is the whole point of these special edition watches.
Now the shining part: blacked exterior combined with inverted LCD create impressive look for this G-Shock. It means business .It is here to be like nuclear submarine you see in the port. Pure blackened stealthy power display. It should be your cup of tea. Personally I like this watch esthetics. Inverted LCD has some reddish tint, small singes on the eyes have matching tint.

These small touches give watch additional layer of impressiveness. You wear something special, unique and you send message. In my case message is I mean business and personal choice is among my valued freedoms I going to defend. The other message is: I am way above the dependable yet boring.

I was standing in fancy independent coffee shop waiting for cappuccino order. While waiting I started to look what people been wearing on their wrists. Barista had Casio dw-91. Solid choice for a work watch. Two people waiting in line were also proud owners of Casio watches. One customer was wearing digital Casio Protrek PRW3000 and other DW6900. Today digital watch is more than utility. Though, it never was utility choice for some people. You got. You got it because it exited you. You get it because it cool to wear it.
