Timex Y2K titanium chronograph
Back in year 2000 or Y2K, as it was popular to say
that time, sun was brighter grass was greener and yes you guessed it… Matrix
got Neo. We learned about Y2K bug which never came. .com bubble and many other
fun things. Timex did not got it groove back and among other things was experimenting
with form and movements. One of these trials I proudly wear on my wrist. In a
way it very special watch.
I don’t know exact model but as it goes with Timex,
model number often lost with the sticker on the back of the watch. So it round,
it titanium grey, it quartz 12hr chronograph, it 50m wr, it based on Miyota
movement. Movement is uncomplicated with date, 12 hr chronograph measuring up
to seconds with help of usual two buttons. Nothing special yet light and
accurate movement. You can see esthetics of the watch on the photos. Watch is
round with a lot of circles going on. These alien folks marking fields in rural
countryside could have this Timex on the wrist with professional pride. Hour
markings play in the light and luck numerals.
This design makes watch more
elegant and exact. Both pushers and the crown have nut hexagonal profile.
This
feature in my eyes goes hand in hand with round shape of the case and
minimalistic industrial design of the watch. Think Audi TT first generation.
Lume present only on hour and minute hands. It not great but after a day on the
sun can pull it. Legibility is good. Watch is so 90-s in size and titanium
build gives it extreme lightness. Bracelet looks like tank threads yet it feel
light and comfortable. Screw down back goes opposes usual Timex approach to
water resistance.
What makes this watch so good and worthy to own?
Design is clean and special. There is no asceticism yet lack of things which
won’t be missed. Watch feels balanced both in looks and on the hand. It very
nice to wear. Light, beautiful and unique. What I see when I wear this watch? I
see hills of middterranian country full of sun, salty breeze and warm smell of
sun. You can just sit and watch sunset changing view with every single minute.
It has some history yet beautiful today as it was yesterday and be worth
watching tomorrow. Same yet different.
